The ways to maintain healthy blood pressure may include a few lifestyle changes and perhaps prescribed medications. First, have your blood pressure checked regularly. Next, maintain a normal body weight,. Keep up physical activity, two and a half hours a week of moderate aerobic activity such as brisk walking plus muscle-strengthening activities at least twice a week.  Follow a healthy eating plan of a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and low in sodium.. Don’t smoke, If you drink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation. If you still need medication to  lower your blood pressure, take it as directed.

The good reasons are that hypertension increases your risk for kidney disease and for heart disease and stroke, the first and third-leading causes of death in the country.
